Sexton Cottage

Sexton Cottage stood in the south east corner of the churchyard and housed the Sextant for St Andrews. This humble dwelling, covered in ivy, was prominent in the village. At the outbreak of WW1, the resident family of Orams lost 3 sons, a tragedy for the family and the community. To the left of the building are 2 figures, yet to be identified.

The building was demolished in the early 20th century and the old stones were used to build the wall we see today. In 2014, the History Society organised a commemorative plaque and tree for the Orams. The plaque was unveiled by Mrs E Preece, the daughter of the brother Richard, who died in the conflict.
